finding peace

I've been having a struggle lately.
(my thoughts here have nothing to do with the pictures! The pictures are from an art project we did recently)

surfing the web vs. staying in God's Word....
watching too many movies vs. focusing my mind on the things of God....
Dreaming of getting more things to make my house pretty vs. making my insides pretty and full of God's wisdom....

We started an awesome class on Sunday nights at church, Quieting a Noisy Soul (By Jim Berg), we are reading his book, God is More than Enough. Oh my goodness! My soul has been so NoIsY!! I have been discontent and always wanting. Wanting more...wanting to shop and wanting to be entertained and wanting comfort. Wanting, wanting. Instead of resting in the peace of God and knowing Him and meditating on His love.

I have been listening to Revive our hearts broadcasts. If you click on that link you will find the broadcasts for Feb...there are several about food and eating, Elyse Fitzpatrick talks about her book, Love to Eat, Hate to Eat (LOVE this)

Then there is this article by John Piper. (The Bible is about to threaten your smartphone focus)
Oh, and this one...(more interested in movies than Jesus)

Thank You, God, that you are not giving up on me! Thank you for Your Words, people, and resources you have brought my way to draw me close to You.

II Peter 1:2-3
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

The knowledge of God!!! The more I know Him, and seek Him, and focus on Him (not me, blogs, tv, movies, pinterest, facebook, clothes, ...etc, etc) the more peace I will have- the more I can bring glory to Him, the more I can teach my children, the more I can encourage and help my husband and be the wife I need to be.

My plan of action: Stuff my mind with good.....carry my phone around with earphones and listen to good stuff: Godly music and broadcasts.
Meditate on God's Word.
Make sure I have good books on hand....ask friends, borrow, request from the library; books that will help my Christian walk.
Make sure the balance is way more tipped in this direction that on any worldly influences that I allow. (tv, movies, etc.....the devil has been slithering into my home way too much and I am not going to let that happen!)

Oh to stay focused and not get distracted... the battle of the day! My Fav... And the PEACE of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally brethren (sister!) whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things! Phil 4:7,8

While I'm reading your post and looking at the pictures in between paragraphs, the phrases "education" and "non-profit" caught my eye, and I had to laugh! I LOVE the fact that you are using news articles as the backdrop for the tree. That is so poetic on so many levels!

Isn't is sad, that stuff in and about our own homes is such an easy way for the devil to distract us homemakers/wives/mums! Thank you for being willing to admit this openly and to share how God has been working in your life. It is both encouraging and a challenge for me. It is an everyday battle that we face...wanting our homes to look nicer, having up-to-date clothing, decor, and being up-to-date on music and movies... Thanks again for sharing, you are a blessing :) keep allowing the Lord to show Himself strong through His Word and and He will!

Thanks for sharing all this... it's a constant battle inside all of us. I love the "man shall not live by Facebook alone" link --> what a great challenge.

Love the trees! Great way to upcycle the news. :)

I just found your blog today! Such an inspiration for me. I have been feeling very overwhelmed with a show coming up and responsibilities and worries........Too many distractions away from God for me! And this just inspires me more. AND I so love your colorful world. I am going to instill more color into mine today! And get in touch with my spirit and God!
