curly or straight?

I am having a mid-life crisis with my hair. I never know what to do with it because it always has a mind of it's own. And I am not a qualified professional who knows how to deal with hair and make it do what I want it to do! So here it is curly.

And then I got it highlighted and this is the day the new girl, Lisa (she's not Renee, but she's real close), styled my hair. Dave and I both liked it straight like this. The only problem is....

I can't quite get it to turn out like Lisa did. So this is what it looks like when I make it straight.

What would you do? I really, really want your opinion. This is your chance to tell me what you would do if you had my hair. Would you wear it curly, straight, or something different? Shorter like I used to have it? Longer? (which is what I am doing right now, growing it)

I like it straight.

Hi Sara, you are adorable both ways, but I really like it straight. Have you used a round brush when blow drying it? That might help to give it some body like your hair stylist did. :-)

You always look cute, but I like that style on you straight - even when you fix it. =) My hair never looks the same as when the stylist fixes it.

...so I know from experience that wearing it straight takes a lot of blow drier work, but really, really like yours straight...of course, I like curly too--I grew up in the 80s/90s where "big hair is better!" :)

Straight! : ) But, totally understand how hard it is to get it to look like when you left the salon!

Michelle us right - if you want a little more body dry your hair until it is just damp, then use a fat round brush (one with boar hair will add shine) & dry it smooth. However, I love it curly, it looks fun! :-)

I wish I had hair like yours! I have so incredibly much if I cut it shorter than shoulderlength I end up looking like a lion!
I'd go for curly, it looks so fun, just like your home :)

Really? You're growing your hair out? I like your normally tousled look. But the the straight is pretty too- just looks like more work. You are one of those gals that can pull off any style!!

I like it straight, but I also know from experience that curly is so much easier! And your hair is cute curly! I guess it might end up depending on how much time you want to/can devote to doing your hair that day. I know that's what it usually comes to for me, along with my energy level that morning. :) If I have an extra 5-10 minutes to blow dry it, I usually can get away with taking the curling iron to a couple "mind of their own" spots and forgo the longer straightening process. I'm no hairstyling expert, but hope this helps!

I would rarely comment on a post regarding appearances, but it appears I might be in the minority with my opinion so I'll just throw it out there. While you look gorgeous with your hair straight - It just doesnt appear to be YOU (to me, anyways) you are so fun loving, smiley and such a force of positive nature, that the whimsical, playful, curly style is so much more "Sara" to me. I just smile when I see you look like that, because it kind of encompases all that you are to me. (doesnt that sound strange, especially since I havent met you in real life, although I feel like I have!!!) I do, however agree that you look good however you style it - and I think its because it shines from the inside :)

I think you look sweet no matter what you do with your hair!! So just go with whatever you feel like doing that particular day. :)

I like what Natalie said. Go with what you feel like/have time for/what suits the outfit or occassion, etc. It's nice that you can actually go either way and have choices, so I don't think I'd stick to just one way. (but, my favorite way is the straight - although, I must admit that I don't know you personally, so those who say the curly is more YOU are probably onto something.)

straight.... get some root boost and roller brush most of the front forward as you dry it and before you style it. on humid days, don't fight it and go with the curl. you are precious!

As long as I've read your blog I've loved your hair! I love the natural wave but the straight is cute too. I am a "qualified professional" and I love the curls! But, if you really want to do it straight I would suggest going back to the stylist who styled it and have her walk you through how she did it. Also ask what shampoo, conditioner and styling products she recommends. Good luck! :)

Love the highlights...curly is cute and God's will be done. I wonder if he was an artist...
Seriously though, straight looks great when you need to go somewhere special but natural looks appealing to me.

I love both, but curly definitely seems to fit your artsy character...while the straight looks great, it seems to be better paired with business suits! Either way, beautiful!

I love it straight, too! I (like you) can wear my hair both ways which is nice for variety!! To get mine nice and straight, I use a straightening iron. That helps a ton.

Never posted on your blog before and I have no idea why THIS is what inspired me, but... both are pretty! How nice that you can look great with either when you want to! I'd
consider bringing the cut up to your jaw line, though--you could seriously rock the whole Meg-Ryan-before-plastic-surgery kind of thing.

I have naturally curly hair, too, and most days I wear it straight. If I want more body, I blow dry with my head hanging upside down. I look pretty wild when it is done, but then I straighten with a flat iron really quickly, so as to not flatten it too much and spray, spray, spray! A good aerosol hairspray works wonders! But I agree with most everyone else. It's cute straight or curly - let the weather decide your style for the day!

You can do either! You're just cute!

I love your hair curly, it's so cute and flirty and you!!!! I also really like it when you wear it up with funky headbands. But that might be because I want to do that and my hair is too straight to look as good as your's does in a headband.

I may steal your hairstyle. I'm having a crisis, too. So much gray!! It's totally unfair. {I'm done whining now.}
