Dave has not seen it yet- he'll be home soon from a 3 day business trip (his business trips only have two good qualities- #1- it is good for business...and #2- it is good for me to get some projects done around the house...but it is not good for any other reason- I like him home with me.
I clipped up some of the cards that we have given each other over the years....some random photos...trying to make our room fun and cozy and more us. I am sick and tired of the "rules" you hear about decorating the bedroom in a calming way so that you will be able to sleep at night. I think that is different for each person. I have been trying for years to keep the bedroom uncluttered and sparse. It has never worked for us- it has always felt bare and not done. Now I feel like we can be comfortable in here and relax and enjoy our special mementos that celebrate us and our marriage.
I also painted a little birdcage up there....my daughter is very bothered that I have not painted the bird yet.
What is your bedroom decorated like? Is it totally different from the rest of the house? Have you gotten it how you like it?
(I am linking to Beyond the Picket Fence and Bec's under $100 link party. This project was $0 - using paint I had on hand and shopping the house for fun accessories)

adorable!! i think its cute. now id like to do something like that in my daughters room... humm. dont know if i have the courage though!
where did you get the red plate? i've been looking for one for my room.
We just revamped our bedroom after living in our house for seven years. It went from college dorm lefotvers to a serene and beautiful space. Our furniture is a dark brown wood. Our walls are a creamy ivory. Our curtains are a deep teal taffetta. Our bedding is grey and white paisley. It is so grown up in there. My hubby and I have very different taste so I have to be grown up all over the house except the kitchen. That is where I let my hair down and add color and whimsy!
I like your bird cage. It makes me want to go play more Angry Birds though. But that is a different topic altogether.
Our bedroom is currently tiny, as we have downsized due to the economy : /
It is also a rental, so there is no personalizing here. Hmph.
We used to have a real bed, but soon after our 3rd child, we bought a King size bed, and a $30 frame thing from costco. For over a year it was just the mattress on the frame thingy. Not pretty. Boring. Cold.
One day we went to Ikea, and we found a head board & foot board. I asked what size they were, as I was skeptical it was actually exactly what we needed. King. Total cost= $12! (as is section)
I also bought myself a pale pink dresser, because I'd had none for years. My husband put my pretty mirror on the dresser, and now it feels like a real room again! We like it. We should be moving next month, and maybe we can paint or at least put up pictures then. Maybe paint myself a bird cage.
So cute, Sara!!!!! Yes, I listen to ROH regularly! It was a good one today.
Cute headboard. I am always amused by things showing up different places in the house!
OMW... I thought the headboard was real and until I started reading!!! Great job! I hope Dave likes his surprise... when my hubby goes away he knows something will be moved or painted!
I Love it. I love that you have no fear..,love love love it!
love!love!love!
it is whimsical and colorful, just like it should be. I think those of us who truly decorate our homes in the style that makes us comfortable, will always have a bedroom that is similar to the rest of the house. to what we truly love. I think it is fab! Now i want a bird cage some where. i have a few real ones but they take up too much space. one on the wall is perfect! i have showed my bedroom on my blog. it is similar to the rest of the house. but not as colorful. just yellow and grey. but still happy. love the new room!
I always thought the idea that a bedroom had to be calm was funny because it is dark when you sleep! I say do what you want, and makes you happy! My bedroom is light and airy, but nothing really special. Wish I could fix it up better, but I'd settle for my sweetheart putting his laundry in the basket!
My bedroom is never the way I want it. I am one of those folks that WANTS a more sparse bedroom. This is the year I move the bookcases out:) Once that is done, the room will be more spacious and exactly what I want...for now:) Everything looks great. Can't wait to see the bird you put in that cage:)
Genius headboard! Loooovvvveeee it! And the birdcage...card clothes line! I'm in love, girl! I always love (and want to steal...don't worry I will some time) your ideas!!!!!
Sara this is crazy great!
How fun are you.
Have you heard of Blessed Little Nest (http://www.blessedlittlenest.com/)

LIKE alot! LOVE the birdcage :)) Can you send some of your creativity this way??? I'm seriously lacking these days... :)
~Your pitiful sister-in-law
Adorable bedroom - so YOU. My poor bedroom is the last room I get to decorate - it looks like a mish mash of everyones taste EXCEPT mine! :)
I LOVE IT....I hope your husband does too. It's an wonderfully clever idea.
Happy Spring ya'll
Love it! Just found your blog when a reader suggested I mod podge a coffee table I have like yours.
LOVE all the color in your house! And i have a painted headboard too, but it's about to get a makeover. :)
:) For once I'm with Skye...where's the bird? I was totally expecting the next picture to have one!
I love your headboard! It is super cute! I think that a person's bedroom is their most important room. Your place to be peaceful and rest and love. I love your style!
Okay, that bed "headboard" just rocks! It looks so cute!
This is so wonderful and inspiring. Actually, I thought it was a real headboard until I read you painted it.
I love the bedroom redo! I too thought the headboard was real till I read on. I love it. I've never really liked our bedroom. It always seems the last room to get done when we move - Actually it is usually NEVER finished. This time though, I am GOING to finish! It actually looks the best it has in a long time and I'm excited for the end results.
Love it! I too thought the headboard was real until I started reading, great job!!! Love that tall blue chair. Our bedroom was the one room we painted a light color when we first moved in, every other room in the house was dark colors and now we are finally slowly changing all the other rooms to light colors because we found out we prefer it. Our bedroom is actually the only room in our house that has only been painted once. Although I'm getting ready to change that, well after the kitchen, then the bathroom... it will get it's turn :)
Love the headboard and birdcage. Wonderful! I just recently brightened our master and I love it. My husband is in Singapore and hasn't seen it yet. Ha!
Very cute headboard! You are so much braver than i am, I think I miss out on so much because of my wimpy soul.
It looks great. I love the turquoise chair and bureau. The painted headboard is fantastic. Amazing!!
Ruth
