palette (from the archives....2007.... & BAD HAIR!)

Usually a painting is inspired by a quote or a verse. This painting, however, was more about the design and colors.
The fall palette has changed into a spring one?? I am working on a special painting of the verse Phil 4:8- a great subject!!! Think on what is TRUE, LOVELY, etc. What a good reminder to have on the wall. This is for a friend and has been a fun project. Sarah gets EXTRA brownie points because she gave me a pillowcase to match the colors to. I have enjoyed the lilacs and sages.

bathroom before and after....Nov 2007

More posts from the archives- this was 3 years ago- all I can say is the hair and glasses are already cracking me up.............(not yours, mom- mine!!!). But the bathroom is still black & white and I still love it. And the painted border that you will see on the mirror is still looking freshly painted after 3 years. (I used acrylic paint)
................................................................................................................................................

Here is the only before picture-- white walls--border on the walls and also on the mirror & switch plates. No decor, very plain. Thank you Mom for painting, and for the idea to paint a border around the mirror.

After.
Paint- $13

Canvas for "love" passage- $5
plate from Target- the inspiration for the black&white accents- $3

little black shelf- $5
I had the square canvas already, and the paint on hand.

black spray paint for the light fixture, I already had on hand.

Then- as a stroke of pure genius, Dave brings me this roll of b&w paper from his trip. He had no idea about the bathroom- or the fact that I wanted this exact type of paper to cover boxes for the stuff on the shelves (in the baskets). I will add more pics tomorrow of the shelves with customized storage boxes covered in this fabulous paper. He must read my mind :) He also got me that red shirt from Old Navy- good job, darlin.

Total money spent- $26.oo

a quick question..........

Do you iron with water in your iron and let it steam? Or do you empty your iron and spritz with water? Maybe this is a silly question and everyone in the world uses an iron the way it is supposed to be used- I know it is a lot easier to let it steam, but every once in awhile we get rusty water on whatever we are ironing. Is it maybe something about the water and if I used bottled water it would not rust??

On a different subject- I love What I Wore {a fashion blog}. Look at today's outfit- totally adorable! It has inspired me to paint something with black and white stripes, orange dots, pink & red floral, & some solid tan and black thrown in.

Found this old pic from '03....pregnant with our second (the day he was born).................we loved this old fridge- it was so ugly I had to paint it. Ah.....good memories.

from the archives....painting the nurseries

We don't actually leave for CA for a few more days, but we have a lot to do- a lot to pack and organize.....so I am going to start posting from the archives- and am all excited about this little walk down memory lane! I have lots and lots of posts to share with you :) We'll be back for real in about a week and a half. I will miss you all and have to take a day off when I get back to catch up on all the blogs..................

The following post is from August 2008.....................................

These photos are from our church when we lived in Greenville, SC. When we were there, they graciously allowed me to paint three nurseries and a Junior Church classroom. I had a great time with it, and I'll tell you what, I would paint a wall with cinder blocks any day, it was easy to keep the lines straight.

[p] is for patchwork placemats

I found these patchwork placemats at Goodwill several years ago and have used them almost every day since! Best $1.49 ever spent! Only problem- there are only 4...and we have 5 in our family. So I decided to make another. It does not match, but that is the point of patchwork isn't it- to "not match"?! It only took an hour so I want to make more with other colors- a red patchwork placemat, a green patchwork placemat....etc..........

Our newest placemat family member- yellow patch!

Definitely not perfect- but it makes the table bright and happy. I copied the Goodwill placemats and stitched all of the patches together (I cannot measure- it is against the art*house rules to measure while sewing). Then I sewed a plain piece of fabric to the back (sewed right sides together just like making a pillow, leave one side open- turn right side out and then iron that last side so it looks like it is sewed under- then sew a seam all around the edge.

happy!

polka-dotty!

cheerful

Question: are you a placemat kind of person or a tablecloth person? Or maybe you use nothing at all- which it completely fine- I just feel a little naked when we do that :)

S is for sassy switch plates

I looooove covering these little things with paper. I want to cover every single switch plate in our house......do you know how many there are in one house?? I think we have about 19 (that's counting only the light switches and not the outlets). Some of these I just brought with us when we moved.....
This is where I painted directly onto the plate.

And this one was covered by paper and then painted.

These are all covered with paper. The bottom left is decoupaged- the others are just wrapped and taped on the back.

Maybe I will make it a goal to do one a week until our whole house has covered switch plates - they only take about 15 minutes to do. Will there come a time when every single surface of our house is covered in color and pattern? (I hope so :) :)

Here's a post about mod podging fabric onto a switch plate
Then there's Martha's instructions for covering switch plates
Family Fun's got some good info and a video
