freedom to be yourself!

A few days ago I got a comment from someone asking me if I ever stop decorating and that it was a little too much. I had to laugh because I do not intend to stop until the day that I die! My family and I love our house and the color. We feel happy and energized, but also relaxed and cozy. Our house is not the place we go just to sleep- it is the place that we grow in and learn&play and laugh& love and cry in. It is our place.
We each need to decorate our home for our family. Each family is different- that is what makes the world go 'round! That is how God made us! That is why we have architects and doctors and writers and mathematicians....we are all different and fill a different need.

I have an easy time being myself in my art and decor- that part comes easy. It is a bit harder to be myself in all that I say and do. But as I grow older, it is becoming a little easier to say things because I feel they need to be said instead of saying only what others want to hear or expect to hear.

All this rambling to say- please don't let someone else tell you how your house must be decorated. This also means that is someone really likes their walls bare- that I must not criticize either! We are all different, thank the Lord!

Just one last note: if you want to see a house calmly decorated in subdued colors- you better not come and visit this blog- it will only get brighter as the days go on.......:)

hey Sara,

I love your style and I love that you are married to my brother. he is the better for it and I can feel the love pouring from your home with every post that I see and read. I love your sense of color and style and wish I had 1 ounce of your talent:)

Oh, and I love those 3 peeps and the 1 adorable pup:)

I love how you decorate, even if I couldn't or wouldn't do things exactly in my own house, I appreciate your sense of color and style. It is so fun!
I'm a quilter and the same thing goes for quilts. I can greatly appreciate a beautiful quilt - it's construction and precision - without loving the color combinations or wanting to duplicate it in my own house.

By the way, I recognized the Alexander Henry fabric on your shower curtain. I just finished a table runner with that fabric!

I LOVE your house! I LOVE that God created us all special and unique!- what a boring world if we were all the same!- I posted something similar today! God has blessed us all with differences that we should celebrate! Never stop your precious creative ways! I LOVE them!!!-

Sara, our homes couldn't be more different, but I so love them both. How boring would it be if we were all the same? I love to see what you are doing next and would be so sad if you stopped! Your home is wonderful - it is so warm and inviting.

You keep being wonderful YOU, Sara! The way you fill your home with beautiful pictures and Words from His WORD is not only encouraging to all of us, but pleasing to Him. Love it all....and can't wait to see what you do next!
Much love :)

Sara, I love your house. My husband does not care for much color so I always tease him that when he dies, I am painting every wall a different color. :) We compromise to make our home "Our Place". Keep decorating!

Here is a decorating question for you. Where did you get the board with the hooks on it that have bags hung on it? It is in one of the pictures in your post.I would like to get one, but am unsure where to look.

Thanks!
Nicki

Your house is definately not mine, but it fits you well. I wish I could decorate more but don't really know where to start. I had someone tell me how my house was too bare and blah in color and it really hurt my feelings, so I know how you feel!

You're house rocks! Keep showing us all the awesome decorating that you do, it really inspires me!!! I love the painting in the first groupings of photos. The top photo on the right, it's the bottom painting near the towel rack. I'm assuming you painted it, do you have any more like that for sale or maybe a print?

Our homes should reflect who we are, and I'm so glad that yours does! It's colorful and beautiful and awesome, don't ever stop! I LOVE looking at it!

I really like your turqoise mantle and your red wall, you have a nack for color combo's. I think your home is VERY happy and cheerful looking. Yippee for our own styles RIGHT!! How boring it would be if all of our houses looked the same.

Yea! You are an artist and an artist reflects herself in everything she puts around her. We NEED your bright, busy, cheeriness (especially people like me, with basically bare walls - I don't necessarily like it that way so that's why I need you!). If I ever grow up, I want to be like you :)

I love your colorful house too :)
It wouldn't work for us, but I love looking at your photos. It looks like a happy place!!

I especially love the nightstand done in browns. Did you post about that and I missed it? Did you use papaer or fabrics? I would love to try something similar...

Thanks for the brightest spot in my blog reading. Love coming here!

i wrote a defensive post the other day. it was to a family member. one that is so mean to me, and i thought if they could only read between the lines.

well, i had some negative feedback because noone understood where it came from. i'm never really blunt and honest like that.

anyways, i wish i hadn't deleted it. oh well! your home makes me smile! do what you love. . .love what you do!

have a great week!
