Taking Over the Kitchen- one wall at a time

BEFORE

BEFORE

AFTER

I am most happy that the sink is empty. Yesterday was a crazy day of not ever completely having the sink empty (it was also the day that I discovered that I was taking out and folding clothes from a basket of dirty laundry....)

A work in progress- I need to keep going at it - little bits at a time. But there is something that is not right. The other patchwork walls are OK because they are against the black walls so your eye has something to anchor to. When you have these colorful squares against the light cabinets- the eye goes rolling around like crazy. (That is why I have a lot of black accents in the house- black picture frames, etc).

Any suggestions? We will eventually paint the cabinets- probably a mossy green - maybe that will help.

I said, "Paul, do you want to see what Sara has done now?" He said, "I don't know!" But we both like it! Did you put something over it? Looks cute! Green cupboards would be nice. Will you sand the edges like I would (did) do?

How cheerful! Ohhh the cupboards would look so cute green! What a job though. At our home in Indy my mom and I refinished my cupboards and man it was time consuming. Can't wait to see the finished project!!!!!

That is the coolest backsplash ever! Your kitchen is just such a happy room.

You were talking about the black on the other wall, you might use a small 1/4 round molding or some other small molding painted black. It'd kinda frame it out, and tie into the other walls. The only tricky part is under your window cause its so small. Maybe somekinda ribon or trim would have the same effect.... just some thoughts.

Okay. So glad to know I am not the only one who forgets if the pile of clothes is dirty or clean. Whew...

I think the wall looks great. Colored cupboards would be cool!

You and Dave are in my prayers as you use your gifts for the Lord. You inspire me to dig deep and figure out how I need to "put myself out there" for the Lord.

I love it! Your kitchen is so bright and cheery!

I think mossy green cabinets would look great! I also like the idea that Steph made about a black ribbon or molding would look nice too!

gotta love a clean sink! (are you familiar with fly lady?)

It's so bright and cheery... I'm scared of color - that's why I'm so fascinated with what you do. Looks great!

what about buying some of that skinny crown molding, painting it black and putting it above the "counter splash" and below the cupboards...it might cover some of the paper but it might work.... i really dont know what to call it-- "crown molding or accent boards... hmmmm...."

Your laundry comment cracked me up. It's better than started to wash clothes that YOU KNOW you already washed/dried/folded! "Hey, who put this in here again...!"
I picture a larger, blown up, one of those birds like a black silhouette right on the backsplash...just an idea.
Lookin' good though.

Rachel and Jacob had the same idea I did. I think it would look sharp if you framed it with black moldings. It would be pretty inexpensive as well.

I am looking forward to moving out of a house that we are trying to sell (mean all neutral colors) to a South American country that LOVES color.

When my sister-in-law rented her home in Ecuador, every wall was painted with a very bright color. She hated it, but let everyone know that the Ecuadorian color scheme was a perfect match for ME! Yay!

Anyhow, (extra long comment today), I love the patchwork backsplash, and as always, your home has made me even a little more adoring of your sense of style.

oops, I forgot to say: I think you know what I would say about green cabinets. I am your green obsessed reader.

You're using paper to cover these walls right? How do you clean it?? ...especially around the sink?

I think it looks great!
