it's not done yet, but here is the basic idea....

BEFORE

AFTER

I used Porch and Floor paint (latex satin) from Lowes. I painted the whole floor with the cream color first and then used a large square piece of cardboard to trace the squares- no measuring!!! Now I am in the process of finishing the brown- freehand painting inside the square, then using a smaller brush to make the straight lines on each edge. I am sure you could tape off each square to speed up the process.

I love the transformation!!! You always do the neatest stuff. I'll have to remember this idea when we actually have a house.

This a great idea! I love the checkerboard pattern vs. a solid color. Of course you'd use a pattern to liven it up! :) It looks cozier and more welcoming already! The paint adds so much character to your porch.

My porch is about 1/20 your size porch. I want to paint my porch now. Even just a plain old color and say bye bye ugly plain cement. It won't be happening any time soon but it will be fun to mull over in my mind :)

I love, love, love your porch! My boys are begging to paint ours the same way-- after seeing your pictures! They think your house is 'the coolest house ever' to quote them! Unfortunatley, I tried painting a diamond pattern on a canvas once, and it didn't turn out anything like diamonds!!! I didn't think to try drawing them out first- I taped it all wrong. You are just too smart! ;)
