Poll: Do you wear your jewelry while cleaning?

No, this picture is not actually my ring..... My engagement ring has seen better days. I have always worn it cleaning and doing everything. About a year ago we noticed that one of the baguettes (small rectangular diamond on the side) was missing. I feel just awful about it. I can still wear the ring, but it really needs some work. I think we are planning to get the whole ring redone for our 10th anniversary (one year from this July).

Anyway, I just feel really cautious about the ring now, and probably 50% of the time I wear only my wedding band.

So, who wears their ring(s) while cleaning??? Are you extra cautious- or do certain settings (platinum maybe over white gold) give you the freedom to knock it around...(not on purpose, but you know how life is :)

I wear my ring all the time. I take it off to clean it or if my hands swell (when walking long distances or after using the weed eater). I have several relatives who take theirs off for housework and sleeping (some had lost portions, like you, or had loose prongs; others just wanted to be cautious). I know you must feel sick!

I wear it. Maybe I shouldn't.

I wear my ring and don't have problems. My 10 year anniversary ring did the same thing. I looked down and saw a sapphire had fallen out. We went to Jared (yes, he went to Jareds), got a ring that looked the same for $20 more, and they guarantee the stones for life. Try going there when you get your new ring!

My ring looks exactly like that. It's platinum and I don't worry about it very much because it is insured. I wear it all of the time. In fact, the only time I take it off is if I am sticking my hands in hamburger.

We picked platinum b/c it is supposed to be so much stronger. However, last year I noticed that the outside prong was bent. Apparently, the diamonds in my wedding band wore it away. I had to have a new head put on it and it cost a fortune. I will continue having this problem every 5 years unless I have them soddered together...

I wear my engagement and wedding rings most of the time (they were never welded together). Occasionally I'll take them off if my fingers swell and the rings get too tight. When the boys were babies, I didn't wear my rings because I didn't want to scratch them (my diamond is set up high).

I wonder if your homeowners insurance (for personal articles) would cover the diamond that you lost. Our insurance covers my ring, so I don't worry about it too much. :)

For some reason, and I don't understand it, your rings do not wear well (especially the prongs) if they are not soldered together. I had that done after about 10 years and the jeweler said my ring would be fine without new prongs for quite sometime. I wore it another five years until I got pregnant with Johnny and now it will never fit again until I get it resized. Unless there's a famine.

I wore it all the time through everything for 15 years straight. I believe something like 10K white gold is a good setting - very strong. I am not familiar with platinum - I don't remember that being a choice 22 years ago!

I got a titanium wedding band for 99 cents off EBay. That's all I wear now. I just wanted something to show I am married. If you have allergy issues with precious metals, titanium is inert. It's an abundant, amazing metal too!

I haven't worn my diamond on a regular basis in years! I scratched Kimberly with it when she was a baby and felt awful. I'm allergic to my platinum band so don't wear it as much as I should either:( So, no, I don't clean in my rings...

I've been married for 8 years in July, and I wear my rings ALL the time! The only exception was when I had some sort of fungal reaction (maybe from washing my hands 50,000 times a day - OK, SLIGHT exaggeration - b/c of my nursing job, and not drying underneath my ring properly). Anyway, it healed after a couple of months, and haven't had a problem since! I only take off my rings when I am applying lotion, since I hate to get them all nastified! My setting is 14K yellow gold, and I did get my wedding band soltered to my engagement ring. They fit together like a puzzle piece, but the band always spun around until I got them soltered together.

the only time my rings come off is when I'm kneading tea biscuts and I forget sometimes then... I should blog about where my ring came from... :s ♥
